The Trimaran is a lug-rigged sailing vessel, meaning the upper side of the sail is supported by a yard and the lower side of the sail is held by a boom that continues as far forward of the mast as the leading edge of the yard. Lugged-rigged sails are easy to raise and handle, and require relatively short spars and lines to rig. A central hull and two narrow pontoons let the Trimaran cut through the water with little resistance, though in strong winds its lack of a keel may compromise stability.
