A schooner is a sailing vessel with two fore-and-aft rigged masts, the forward of which is shorter than the aft. From Adventuress to Zodiac, no other rig more universally represents our maritime heritage than the two-masted schooner. A favorite among fisherman, traders and yachtsmen alike, schooners have long enjoyed a reputation for seaworthiness and speed. The Coaster is gaff-rigged, with a large jib and a headsail on the aft mast. This sail plan maximizes the amount of sail area, while allowing the vessel to maneuver upwind.
